Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE)
Every Child. Every Opportunity. Every Day.
At Greenfield Academy, Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) is an important part of helping children develop the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to lead healthy, safe and successful lives.
Our aim is to support every child to build positive relationships, understand themselves and others, make informed choices and develop the confidence to navigate the opportunities and challenges they will experience as they grow.
What is RSHE?
RSHE helps children develop an understanding of:
- healthy and respectful relationships
- friendships and families
- emotions and mental wellbeing
- physical and emotional changes as they grow
- personal safety and how to seek support
- consent, boundaries and respect
- health, wellbeing and making positive choices
- equality, diversity and respect for others.
The curriculum is carefully planned to ensure learning is age-appropriate, inclusive and builds progressively from Year 7 to Year 11.
Developing Safe and Respectful Young People
Through RSHE, children are encouraged to:
- understand themselves and others
- recognise healthy and unhealthy behaviours
- communicate effectively and respectfully
- understand the importance of consent and personal boundaries
- make responsible decisions
- recognise when they need help and know where to access support.
RSHE supports our wider Personal Development programme by helping children develop the confidence, resilience and character needed to become responsible members of society.
How RSHE is Delivered
RSHE is taught through a combination of:
- Personal Development lessons
- tutor time
- assemblies
- curriculum opportunities
- wider school experiences.
Key messages around respect, kindness, safety and wellbeing are reinforced consistently throughout school life.
Our Approach
We create a safe and respectful environment where children can ask questions, discuss important issues and develop their understanding of the world around them.
Teachers deliver RSHE through a carefully planned curriculum that ensures children receive accurate information, appropriate guidance and opportunities to reflect on real-life situations.
RSHE also supports our commitment to equality and inclusion by helping children understand and respect the experiences, beliefs and backgrounds of others.
Information for Parents and Carers
We recognise that parents and carers play an important role in supporting children’s understanding of relationships, health and wellbeing.
Our RSHE curriculum is developed in line with statutory guidance from the Department for Education. Parents and carers can access further information about what is taught in each year group through our RSHE curriculum overview and policy documents here.
