Keeping Safe

Every Child. Every Opportunity. Every Day.

At Greenfield Academy, we believe every child has the right to feel safe, confident and supported.

Through our Personal Development programme, we help children develop the knowledge and skills needed to recognise risks, make safe choices and know how to access support when they need it.

Keeping safe is an important part of preparing children for life beyond school and helping them become responsible members of their community.

Developing Safety Awareness

Children learn about:

  • making safe and informed choices
  • recognising risks and potential dangers
  • understanding personal boundaries
  • respectful relationships
  • consent and staying safe
  • how to respond to unsafe situations
  • knowing trusted adults and support networks
  • understanding responsibilities within their community.

Safety in Everyday Life

Children develop their understanding of safety through:

  • Personal Development lessons
  • RSHE education
  • assemblies
  • tutor activities
  • visitors and external organisations
  • curriculum opportunities
  • wider school experiences.

We work with external partners to provide children with meaningful learning experiences, including organisations that support safety, wellbeing and citizenship.

Developing Independence and Responsibility

As children grow, we encourage them to become increasingly independent and confident in managing risks.

Children learn to:

  • think critically before making decisions
  • understand consequences
  • look after themselves and others
  • seek help when needed
  • act responsibly in different situations.

This supports our wider character development, helping children become resilient, responsible and respectful young people.

Working Together to Keep Children Safe

Keeping children safe is a partnership between school, families and the wider community.

If children have worries or concerns, they are encouraged to speak to a trusted adult in school.

Further information about safeguarding procedures and support can be found on our Safeguarding pages here.

Preparing Children for the Future

By developing awareness, confidence and responsibility, we help children make positive choices and stay safe as they grow.
