Shildon

Transport from Shildon to Greenfield Academy is at present a free service. It is available for all students in all year groups. Students can attend our free breakfast club when they arrive.

Y7-Y9 Students will be picked up at 07:45 from Shildon Leisure Centre. The bus will travel directly to school.

Y10-Y11 Students will be picked up at 07:45 from Shildon Leisure Centre followed by Shildon Railway Institute at 07:55. The bus will then travel directly to school.

Return Bus departs Greenfield Academy at 15:05 and stops at Shildon Leisure Centre.

Late After School bus departs Greenfield Academy at 16:15 and stops at Shildon Leisure Centre.

Students travelling from School Aycliffe and Heighington.

Coach Company Garnetts – Route 226 – Pick up from Heighington Green at 8:30am

Any new students wishing to apply for a bus pass must ring Darlington Borough Council on 01325 406333.

Students travelling from other surrounding areas.

Durham County Council (DCC) policy stipulates that any student who lives more than three miles from their nearest secondary school is entitled to a bus pass to enable them to get to that school. The route is measured using Ordnance Survey Integrated Transport Network (ITN) and Urban Paths Network (UPN) to determine the shortest route from your house. This is therefore via the recognised footpath route rather than the route by road.  

I live less than three miles from the school. Do I qualify for a bus pass?

Generally, no. Under Durham County Council’s rules, it is considered that a secondary school student is able to walk three miles. However, there are exceptions to this, and free travel may be made available if the walking route from home is assessed by DCC to be unsuitable. DCC has an agreed policy on the criteria to be used when assessing whether a route is suitable and will apply this policy in all circumstances.
