Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE)

Every Child. Every Opportunity. Every Day.

At Greenfield Academy, PSHE plays an important role in preparing children for the opportunities, responsibilities and challenges of life both now and in the future.

Through a carefully planned curriculum from Year 7 to Year 11, children develop the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to make informed decisions, stay safe and healthy, build positive relationships and prepare for life beyond Greenfield.

Our PSHE Curriculum

Our curriculum is designed to be relevant to children’s lives and develops progressively as they move through school.

Through PSHE, children have opportunities to develop their understanding of areas including:

  • relationships and wellbeing
  • physical and mental health
  • online safety
  • citizenship and British Values
  • equality, diversity and discrimination
  • careers and future pathways
  • financial awareness and life skills
  • personal safety and managing risk.

Learning also responds to the changing opportunities and challenges children may encounter as they grow, helping them develop confidence, independence and responsibility.

Developing Knowledge for Life

PSHE is about more than knowing facts. Children are encouraged to think critically, discuss real-life issues and consider how the choices they make can affect themselves and others.

Through their learning, we want children to develop the confidence to:

  • make informed and responsible decisions
  • recognise and manage risks
  • understand their rights and responsibilities
  • respect different people and viewpoints
  • know when and where to seek help
  • prepare for further education, employment and adult life.

This supports our wider Personal Development programme and our values of being Proud, Ambitious and Kind.

Working With Parents and Carers

We recognise the important role parents and carers play in children’s Personal Development.

Our curriculum overviews are available above so that families can see what children are learning throughout each year. Further information about statutory Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education, including information for parents and carers, can be found on our dedicated page here.
