Careers Education
Every Child. Every Opportunity. Every Day.
At Greenfield Academy, we want every child to leave school with the knowledge, skills, confidence and ambition to achieve their goals.
Our Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) programme runs from Year 7 to Year 11, helping children explore their strengths and aspirations, understand the opportunities available to them and make informed decisions about education, employment and training.
Our programme is informed by the Gatsby Benchmarks for Good Career Guidance and the Career Development Institute (CDI) Framework and includes careers education, employer encounters, workplace experiences, Labour Market Information and impartial personal guidance.

How We Meet The Gatsby Benchmarks
Our careers programme is carefully planned from Years 7 to 11 and forms an integral part of our Personal Development curriculum. It is reviewed annually by our Careers Leader to ensure it continues to meet the needs of our students, local employers and national guidance.
Students explore local and national Labour Market Information (LMI) throughout their time at Greenfield Academy. This helps them understand employment trends, future skills, growth industries and how different career pathways link to opportunities within the North East and beyond.
Our ethos of Every Child. Every Opportunity. Every Day. underpins everything we do.
Every student receives careers education that reflects their individual aspirations, interests and needs. We provide additional personalised support for students with SEND and those who may be at risk of becoming Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET), ensuring every young person is supported to achieve a positive destination.
Careers education is embedded across the curriculum. Every subject helps students understand how the knowledge and skills they develop in lessons can lead to a wide range of future opportunities and careers.
Students regularly meet employers and employees through careers fairs, enterprise activities, employer talks, workplace projects, mock interviews and curriculum-linked activities. These encounters broaden aspirations and help students understand the world of work.
Students gain valuable first-hand experience of the workplace through work shadowing, work experience and employer-led activities. These opportunities help develop confidence, independence and the employability skills needed for future success.
Students have opportunities to meet representatives from sixth forms, colleges, universities, apprenticeship providers and training organisations. Through visits, careers fairs, assemblies and information events, students gain a clear understanding of the full range of pathways available after Year 11.
Students receive impartial one-to-one careers guidance from a qualified Careers Adviser at key transition points. Guidance interviews help students explore their options, make informed decisions and develop clear action plans for their future.
Supporting Every Child
Our ethos of Every Child. Every Opportunity. Every Day. means recognising that every child’s careers journey is different.
Children with SEND receive personalised careers support, including additional guidance, transition planning and opportunities to develop independence and employability skills.
Children who may be at risk of becoming NEET receive additional support through close partnership with families and external agencies, including DurhamWorks where appropriate.

Greenfield Academy carries out an annual review of its CEIAG provision. This is done by analysis of local and national NEET figures as well as student surveys. The provision is also mapped against the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks. Greenfield Academy’s published CEIAG information is reviewed annually in June of each year.
